14 month old with diarrhea since Sunday

14 month old DD has had diarrhea since Sunday, she also had sickness but that seems to have abated a bit. She's drinking okay and eating a little bit. Any advice on how we can get rid of this bug? I always thought D&V lasted about 48 hours, and this seems never ending. Poor little DD.

11 days!! Your poor DC - and poor you for having to deal with the nappies for 11 days. I hope it doesn't last that long - DH & I will end up using a big chunk of our annual leave (both work ft) and I'd rather use it to spend time doing fun things as a family Sad

Ohhelp Thanks, you're right, DH came down with it last night Sad. What sort of bland food did you feed DS? DH took DD to the GP on Thursday and the GP said less milk, more water. All the sort of food that I think of as easily digestible (although I have not idea if they really are easily digestible) is dairy - yogurt, custard, rice pudding.

NO dairy is a good idea, bugs feed off dairy products and reproduce in the gut instead of dying off, apparantly.

I know rotavirus can last a while.
Hope she feels better soon

Bananas - rice - apples - toast all good to eat. Avoid meat for several days after symptoms stop. Plain rice, pasta and crackers are also easy digestible.

As well as water, ice chips are good to rehydrate.

Avoid all dairy until symptoms have cleared.

idiot thanks, I thought if the GP was saying less milk, then it might be better to avoid dairy. I'm hoping it will go soon.

ihear thanks for the suggestions, DD likes bananas so we've been giving her those, but will try the other things you suggested.
