Hello - both DH and I have had a horrible cold/virus. Chesty, dizzy, achy, snotty. DS2 now seems to have it. He is 12 weeks old. He had a temp of 39.3 at 2am so gave calpol and he breastfed. At 6am when he next woke he had temp of 39 and had another big breastfeed and some baby nurofen. His temp is now 38.7. He is sleeping but not very happy.

At 3 weeks old he had an ear infection and burst eardrum so I'm keeping an eye on that.

I just don't know what to do. I'm not in the UK and so if I want to see a doctor today I have to take him in taxi (with no car seat) to A&E. DH is away with work tomorrow so if toddler DS1 gets it and is off nursery tomorrow then I can't drag him to A&E or to doctor on public transport with us.

Not sure what to do......I'm guessing just monitor temperature and see what he is like tomorrow?????

He has had a few.....lots of poos. He is full of wind (which results in poo) as he keeps swallowing to lubricate his throat and gulping down air.

Thanks skygirls - will do.

Exceptionally bad timing - we are moving house (from Belgium to UK) next week so have lots to do.

Poor thing, I agree about taking him to A and E if he gets any worse.

Oh no, is there any chance you can delay the move until he is better?

Take him to a&e now. (I am doctor)
Temp of 39 in 3 month old needs proper assessment by paeds dr and septic screen (bloods etc)
It's not good enough to say its only a virus. Fine in a 6 month old, not in a 3. His immunity is just developing, and antibodies he got from you are waning. Also his fluid balance is more easily upset- so if he misses a few feeds he can become dehydrated.
A&e will be quiet now so please go. You will be seen by a paeds dr. It may well turn out to be a virus but he needs proper assessment.

It was a paediatrician we saw y'day (we're in Belgium so babies go straight to paed not GP). She did full blood screen which came back fine. Nasal swab for influenza came back positive. She has advised rinsing his nose, cool baths, paracetemol and go to A&E if he stops feeding. Have another appointment with her on Monday (pre-booked for his 3 month vaccinations - ha!)

Ok fair enough.
If he deteriorates, or doesnt feed the take him back. don't feel bad about it.

Cancel the vaccinations until he's over this. My GP said its ok to give them a week late but the child has to be fully well.
Poor you with the move, but at least Belgium is not too far.

Good luck.
