Loads of vomitting

I am a bit worried about a friends baby. She is 20 weeks old, breastfed and gaining weight appropriately. It's just she vomits, loads. Today it was more than 50 times. It's definitely milk but not posseting I don't think, the milk is curdled and smells bad. The little girl doesn't seem too bothered by it when it happens, it's just that it happens so frequently. The friend just says she is a pukey baby but I think 50 times in a day is excessive.

I have tried to encourage friend to discuss with GP or even HV but she says it's fine. Is it?

Sounds like some kind of reflux- but it is hard to do anything if your friend won't.

My ds vomited loads as a baby, lasted until he could sit up at around 5 months.

It looked as though he vomited an entire feed each time but still managed to put on loads of weight. He would vomit throughout the day, after feeds, when he was picked up, put down - you name it. Probably around 8-10 times a day though.

I hope you can persuade your friend to get it checked out, it could be reflux, we used infant Gaviscon before feeds.

My DS vomitted 30 - 40 times a day for the first 8/9 months and still maybe 10 times a day up to about 18 months. He's just turned 2 and is still sick several times a week, usually when he bends over to pick something up, when he's climbing or, particularly delightfully, in the bath .

I have taken him to our very good GP who had a baby with similar issues and she said that as he was gaining weight there was basically nothing to be done except wait for him to grow a bit longer so there's more distance between his stomach and his mouth. There is an operation but it has its own issues and isn't recommended if weight gain is OK.

If your friend has seen a health professional at some point, her baby is gaining weight and it isn't a new thing then it may well be just 'one of those things'

That's a bit reassuring, thank you. I have always thought it was reflux but friend still not keen to act so I shall have to mind my own business I guess!
