I'd say go to the GP to put your mind at rest and check there isn't anything more serious going on, but in my experience it's possible it's down to the HMS and there's not a lot you can do about it. I used to get terrible aches and pains in my legs as a child/adolescent (how old is she btw?) and sadly my DD is exactly the same. Staying warm and gentle exercise helps to a certain extent and I find ibuprofen works better than paracetamol.

Hopefully someone knows something more effective than this. My DD would appreciate it too!

DS2 has just been diagnosed as hypermobile, his legs hurt him too (esp in the mornings), his paed said it was down to the hypermobility.

DD has had pains in her legs regularly. It sometimes makes her cry. It has gone on for years.

The physio says it is "growing pains" for want of a better discription. She is borderline hyper mobile and very long of limb. He says that as the bones in her leg grow it takes a while for the muscle to catch up and that creates a tightness which is painful.

They seem to come in spurts over a few days then not again for a few months. She has some stretching exercises and rubbing and a bit of calpol help a bit. They are particularly bad at night. Could it be something like that?

Downton has it exactly - this is what me and my dd were told too. Keeping active seems to help the muscles and ligaments stretch again.

DD had this as well. She has flat feet and has slightly hypermobile joints. Her pains got so bad last year that the GP sent her for blood tests and x-rays.

I would ask for the same, as they managed to find out what was causing the pain and she is now being treated for it.

MrsShrek3 · 08/03/2013 13:02

thank you all. Bun, you've hit the nail on the head, dd also has flat feet (ortho insoles) and internal tibial torsion.
I've gone with the "growing pains" idea for a bit but tbh i think any growth spurt is shorter than 8 weeks. I'm really trying to figure out whether Im overreacting I think.
yy to massage calpol etc, it works in the short term Smile

My DD also has JHMS & does have leg pain, especially with growth spurts - BUT do look out for other symptoms, theres a flu virus doing the rounds that also comes with leg pain - seen posts on here & my cousins DCs recently had it too -

I suspect its related to the now down graded swine flu, as myself, DD & another cousin & her same age DD had leg pains when we had confirmed SF when it first hit the UK - the DDs legs were especially bad, cousin couldn't walk, but other than that it was just a typical flu virus

hope shes okay

Xx
