Chalazion / Meibomian Cysts - do they 'grow out of them?' plus any advice welcome

my 4yr old dd starting getting chalazions about 10 months ago. So far we are on number 2&3 - both on the same eye.

They just seem to come out of the blue and obviously they look unsightly and keep getting infected. I am a bit fed up of nosey old ladies in the supermarket making comments right in front of my daughter.

Has anyone had experience of this whose children have had a spate but seem to have 'grown out of it'.
Or does anyone have any tips for avoidance or management?
Thanks

My son did have a couple of these when he was about 4 and they were there for a few months. I can't really help you though as he has never had any more! I guess it doesn't help when they are little as they touch it. I remember getting my son to lay with cotton wool with cool boiled water over his eyes for short periods every day and wearing his sun glasses alot (it was summer at the time!).

Sorry I can't be of more help but they just disappeared gradually and so far has had no more problems, they are not something I have ever seen on another child either.

hi
my son has had this ,we;ve let them just go by themselves.
my niece had lots when she was younger so had them removed.
have you had them properly diagnosed -my gp sent my son to the eye clinic just to double check.

thanks for the comments - i think i will try and start an eye hygiene routine as you suggested fascinating.

wfrances we've seen the gp a few times when they are infected but no suggestion they needed further investigation. She's actually due at the eye clinic to review a sight issue so I will bring it up then.

Fingers crossed they will stop at some point - they don't seem to bother her now but am sure they will as she gets older
