Can you look at this and tell me if it looks "normal"

I know glands in the neck can become larger in babies who may be fighting an infection, this gland has been large now for months and has changed slightly in shape,less round and more tubular shaped.
Please have a look at the photo on my profile and tell me if you think I should accept my gps reassurance?or ask for a second opinion.

I can't see it either but if you can photograph it I'd say you need a 2nd opinion.

Ah,I thought I had made it public,I will try again.
Cabbageleaves it can be seen across the room,from around 12/15feet away.

Hi,I would definitely be looking for a second opinion.

Is your child well? If so,probably nothing,but would still get it checked.

Thank you all for looking,he is my dgs and my dd has had him at the doc quite a few time regarding his neck.
Every time she is told it's normal but if it doesn't go away,come back.
We just don't know when it stops being normal?iyswim
He is 12months old and the lump has been there for at least 7months,it's only now that it seems to be changing shape.
We will deffinatly take him back to the GPS this week.

Maybe it is better to insist on a referral to a specialist.

What kind of specialist should we ask to be referred to?

I think the unspoken thought on this thread is could this be cancer?

Ask outright. Say can you guarantee this is not cancer? The GP will have to document your question and his reason for reassuring you so he'd need to back that up in court...therefore it will have to be factual rather than 'my opinion and I see a lot of these'

I would say a GPs experience is good. But not infallible hence a second opinion possibly

At this point you will be given factual reasons of why he has excluded cancer as opposed to why he doesn't think it is worth investigating (I hope)

You need to leave reassured and if not...you need more time to understand what he's telling you or a referral.

I'd also bring in the previous visits and advice on timescale and change and point out clearly its been x months and changed.

It may as well be a cyst given the tubular shape. By that I don't mean it is or look normal. To me it looks huge and I would suggest to start with a scan in order to identify and measure it accurately.
Does it affect the child in his everyday life? Does it hurt when touched or pressed?
And talk about removal options if it doesn't disappear on its own. Ask for a time scale. It's been for 7 months so I think it is nor unreasonable to ask for further investigation and diagnosis. "If it's a cyst, write it down on paper and I'll be happy to leave you in peace for the next 12 months"

i can't see the pic but my 5mo has visible nodules on his neck, he's had them since he was 10 weeks old.

GP has referred him to EN & T specialist. we're just waiting on appt.

GP said that if there was any reason to worry that there would most likely be other symptoms such as significant weight loss.

i didn't have to ask for a referral as GP just wants reassurance as do we.

i think i would be asking for a referral.
