6mo DS- bulging fontanelle

It is very noticeable and has been bulgy since yesterday morning (it's making what little hair he has stand up). He is not himself, rather grumpy and clingy, more passive than usual and will drop off to sleep at a moment's notice (he usually only feeds to sleep or drops off in the pram.) Though the rest of him seems fine his head feels very hot.
However he doesn't seem 'ill'- to anyone else he seems fine, it's just because he's mine I know he's not himself!
WWYD? I have given baby ibu. I tried calling NHS Direct and got the usual "unless you're dying go away" message.

Go to a and e now can be a sign of meningitis or other serious illness

Agreed, do not delay, get this checked straight away and insist on seeing a paediatrician. This is definitely not normal.

Go to a&e it could indicate swelling which is dangerous. Go! I hope he's ok x

Please get it checked today. It was one of danger signs we were told to watch for on my DS (he had fused skull plates and they were worried about raised pressure on his brain before they could operate)

Right, I'm off, though having to walk as car battery is dead AGAIN hopefully they will not roll their eyes at me! He is laughing at DH at the moment, looks as ill as I do.

They won't roll their eyes. He's a young baby, better safe than sorry. Hope all is ok.

Got out at half 7, finally sat down!
It took us about 2 1/2 hours to even be seen, then a further 3 hours to get out. Long and short of the whole day was- give him Calpol and keep an eye on him.
They did at one point have a staff nurse, a doctor and the registrar all looking at him though, so they were thorough. His fontanelle is slightly less swollen and his temp is down a bit, and he's a bit more like his usual self though grumpy. The doctor said if I'm still concerned tomorrow to bring him back in.
