My dd has just been to the toilet before bed, when I went to wipe her bum I noticed a bit of bright red blood on her bum and on the poo.
Quick internet search suggests this could be to a lack of water and fibre causing constipation or a tear. She said it didn't hurt but it was hard to get out.
She is usually a very good eater and absolutely loves her fruits and veg, but she was unwell all last week, first with a sickness bug and then with a cold and didn't eat much all week.
She's just started eating normally again, and always drinks plenty, even when she was poorly. Thinking about, don't think she's had a bm for a couple of days, but this isn't unusual for her, she doesn't go every day.
I will ring the doctor tomorrow morning.
Your thoughts/advice/reassurance please?? It was a bit alarming! (sorry if TMI)

Sounds like a little tear - if it was fresh red I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Thank you Bea. If it was a problem higher up, it would be darker blood wouldn't it? This was clearly fresh, bright red blood.

Very common, mine have occasionally had a bit of blood when they've done a difficult poo. It's a tiny fissure and will heal by itself normally very quickly.

Don't panic Smile

Yep

Thank you both, I won't start panicking unless it happens again! Was just a bit of an 'oh my god!' moment!

We've had this recently - saw GP & then paediatrician to be safe. Seems to be anal fissure so using something to loosen stools a little & improving, Was very alarming when first saw.
Would still get it checked by GP though.
