Can the GP do anything for 4mo with a cough/cold?

4mo DD2 has had a cold for over a week now, and in particular has a cough which doesn't seem to be improving. DH thinks I should take her to the GP, but I'm pretty sure they'll just tell me that a) it can be normal for a cough to hang around this long and b) there's nothing they can do anyway. Any advice? I don't want to waste the GP's time, but it's not nice seeing poor DD suffering.

GP can listen to her chest as infection will need antibiotics. Coughs do last for ages sometimes bit with a LO its probably best to take her.....you are not wasting their time.

OK, thanks. I've made an appointment for this morning. Best to be on the safe side :)

Hi Earnest, if she hadn't been responding to self-care and the problem was on-going then it was best to make an appointment with your GP.

If you're ever unsure on what to do you can call NHS direct on 0845 46 47 for personal, friendly advice.

How did you get on op?

I took our 6 week old baby to see the nurse a few weeks back as she'd been a bit off for a couple of days. She was immediately referred to hospital with bronchiolitis.

She's my 3rd dc so I'm used to sniffles etc but I was really surprised when she was admitted.

Always best to checking you're not sure. Always go with your instinct.

It was fine, thanks Cherry, he listened to her lungs, checked her temp, throat and ears. He wasn't worried and thought it should just clear eventually on its own. So I feel reassured :) Your story shows it is better to be safe than sorry though. Hope your DD is on the mend.
