Do these medications have a drowsy effect? Or, are they just liquid paracetamol & ibuprofen?

Back story: DD often screams in her sleep and has to be woken up to stop. She often wakes screaming too. She has silent reflux. We are waiting for paeds appt. HV suggested giving painkiller at bedtime so we have. She has slept for approximately 4 hours, quite soundly, before waking up screaming.

Is she in pain and the painkillers are allowing her to sleep? Is she 'knocked out' by drowsy medication?

Shouldn't have a drowsy effect. As you say, they are just liquid paracetamol and ibuprofen. I'd imagine she's slept because she's not in pain.

They are straight suspensions of paediatric paracetamol and paediatric ibuprofen.

There is no added antihistamine (the typical 'drowsy' ingredient): indeed the formulations which had it are now clearly marked as unsuitable for under 6s.

So, she is isn't sleeping because she is in pain. That's good information.
