Hives from virus

DD has a history of allergic reaction to fish and prescribed an epipen. This morning woke up and seemed to have a few hives on body so gave her piriton which seemed to calm it down. This afternoon I stupidly assumed when I spotted that her lip was slightly swollen that it was due to the collision with the door in the kitchen that she had had half an hour earlier. Went for a walk with her in the pushchair. When i carried her back in I noticed that she had some angry looking hives around her eyes and her lip looked more swollen. Gave her piriton and rushed her down to casualty. Seen by OH doctor who has put it down to the start of a viral infection. Has anyone had any experience of this. The piriton hasn't really done anything which is making me a bit worried. I have been giving her 2.5ml but GP said I can give her 5ml. So she is due another dose in 45 mins so do you think I should up the dose of 5ml even though for 3 yrs the standard dose is 2.5ml. She is coughing lots this evening so maybe it is the start of a virus or could this be part of the reaction?

It sounds like you need to speak to someone medical again for some advice to be honest. If the piriton hasn't helped at all and there is worsening swelling it could be she needs to be seen again. How is her breathing? Any problems with that being affected then go to A&E.

DD (5 yo) gets hives around her eyes whenever she has a virus. Once when she was about 3yo she had them all over her trunk at the onset of a cold, but they went down overnight and when she gets them now they can be quite large (up to 50 pence piece size), but then go down as quickly as they came up. Hopefully this is what your DD is suffering with too.

If Dr says the 5ml dose is ok then I would go with that if the lower dose isn't working.

Hope she feels better soon!
