The great sugar debate!

Despite extensive studies proving sugar has no link with hyperactivity, I am convinced my daughters almost weekly decline into a manic, frenzied little monkey is a direct result of the masses of chocolate and sweets her grandparents feed her.

The scientists will suggest it is her environment, ie her excitement at being at her Grandparents, but she is "normal" all day with them until the treats are given, at which point she becomes a little monster.

This is one I really believe the scientists have got wrong. Surely caffeine in chocolate would stimulate a child and sugar would provide a quick high.

Could it be the artificial additives that are also in the treats that daughter reacts too? My daughter, now 8, has always reacted badly to artificial sweeteners, so low surgery drinks etc. her reactions range from spinning head (fluffy head she called it), biting, kicking, and uncontrollable laughing to the point where she was crying. .... We love sugar it's been a miracle cure!

"she is "normal" all day with them until the treats are given, at which point she becomes a little monster."

My dd can change like this without any treats being given. She's so happy to see people but after a while it inevitably ends in tears when she gets tired.

Maybe her gps sense that her good mood is starting to falter and give the treats to try to pick her up again? So it looks like the sweets/ chocolate have caused the behaviour, but actually she was headed that way anyway?
