Help - Lips going blue but they didn't before?

Probably nothing but a bit weird...my otherwise healthy 3 year old's lips have started going blue when cold, particularly when eating and cold. It's a really striking shade of blue across the middle of the lips almost as if he's eaten a blue pen.

He has never done this before (not even last winter when it was bloody freezing round here) and it has only been in the last month. Should we care or is it another weird kid thing?

My ds is 7 and his do this. They did today. He seems otherwise fine so I've not done anything about it ... Will watch with interest.

I think blue lips are worth a trip to the doctor. May well be nothing but best to check.

Dd1 had something similar when she was a toddler.

In her case it was lack of oxygen in her blood. She was eventually diagnosed as asthmatic.

Best to get checked out at the doctor.

Yep definitely needs a trip to the doc. Needs investigating and probable referral.

Also watching with interest as my dd3 has this. She is 3 in July but quite small for her age & does get a bit wheezy.

This week it has been so cold she has had blue lips almost all day until she's warmed back up again from any trip outside..

My younger ds had this when he was little. It seemed to happen nwhen cold and a bit run-down, just before or after he came down with a bug. Doctor checked him out, during an episode, but all was fine. It does not seem tohappen now, last time was when he was 4 and caught the swine flu, for ages after he would go a funny colour when cold. Scared the pants off his teachers but other than that no side effects Smile

Same with both my little boys up to the age of about five. As Fanjango noted it seemed worst when they were a bit under the weather or tired but just plain cold would do it.Interestingly, I never noticed it with my two older children who have a different dad so I guess it's an inherited tendency.

Thanks for replies, looks like it could be something or nothing - will make an appointment just in case.
