Abdominal Migraine ?????

I'm wondering if anyone has person experience of this in their DCs as I'm of a mind my DD is a sufferer, but so far no joy with Doctors as she has other diagnosis - Joint Hypermobility Syndrome & an earlier diagnosis of IBS which we now know comes under the umbrella of JHMS.

With IBS we know her triggers & mostly have it under control, but I have noticed that every time I get a weather change induced migraine, DD is doubled up with stomach pain & sudden diarrhoea - it happened when out again today & we had to rush her to the toilet & then come home, she was shaky, nauseous looks green & generally very uncoordinated, now curled up on the sofa with ahead pad - no stress & she has had absolutely no food triggers :(

I was floored last night with migraine, had to go to bed at 7 & I have had aura symptoms since Wed morning & badly so still today, though I thought I was coping - I wasn't, not safe to be let loose on my own - but that's another thread Grin - weather here was lovely but as I can before accurate than the weatherman I kind of guessed it was going to change - icy cold & now snowing.

I've tried to discuss this possibility with our GP, the Gastro & the JHMS specialist DD has seen, but they quizzed her about headaches & concluded that she doesn't suffer with migraine, but I have read that migraine can hit DCs in their stomach, so feel I'm banging my head against a brick wall & need more info in order to know if I might be right & whether or not its worth fighting for a referral & if so, who too ??

TIA

ds1 had abdominal migraine, very occassional, took me a long time to figure it out as it presented as a wierd viral type thing, he was very weak and photophobic, would go to bed, had stomach pains but I don't think he would vomit (long time ago now) would last about 24 hrs then he would be OK just a bit weak and shaky though not having eat. I thought it was commonly known, not sure why GP would not recognise it? I think I read about it on a migraine website

Thank you - yes DD gets photophobic too - I forgot to add that bit - she was shading her eyes on the way home & it was t even sunny - she's never been sick either, just feels nauseous - in her words, " I feel sick, dizzy sick, but no I won't be sick"

& I'm not sure either, every doctor I've mentioned it too starts asking DD about headaches, but never link it to her stomach problems - though in fairness I don't think migraine covers all her stomach problems, just occasionally like today - mind you our GP isn't always on the ball - took me 5 years to get a referral for DDs JHMS diagnosis, be careful not to transfer my own health problems onto her - the specialist diagnosed her immediately with a high beighton score & couldn't understand why she'd not been sent to her sooner- it then turns out our GP has it too Hmm

dd (3) has just been diagnosed with abdominal migraine. We suspected it due to family history of migraine, gp asked us to keep full food and behavior diary then we were referred to the paediatric consultant who confirmed it. key points seemed to be pain centered on her tummy button, very pale during an attack with dark rings under her eyes afterwards and, will not eat during an attack.

Thank you Betty really sorry your DS gets it too, but how you describe there sounds pretty much spot on - I have a chronic migraine diagnosis, my big trigger being weather change, storm coming, snow etc & that's why I'm wondering if this is her problem in part too as DDs getting ill with stomach pain pretty much at the same times I have migraine/aura too - my DD is 10, but I've wondered about this for several years now - think I need to go back to the GP & try again - thank you

ds1's trigger was low blood sugar ie not bothering to eat lunch
also, dark circles under eyes
and- just a warning- ds2 also has migraine, very occassional, also triggered by not eating- had one attack where he was unable to speak for several hours.

Interesting Shallish DD can be a mare for skipping food if she's busy, so thats something for me to keep an eye on I think - thanks
