She's 2.5 and threw up at noon and was listless, pale, no appetite for the rest of the day. Her temperature didn't improve with Calpol. DH came home to take her to the GP but she perked up when she sae him so we cancelled the appointment.

Then she lay on the floor and temperature was 39.5. 40 minutes after more Calpol, it was 40 degrees and she started throwing up lots even though she hasn't eaten today. She is whimpering and says her head hurts. DH has taken her by taxi to out of hours, I am home with 4 month old DS v anxious and terrified it's meningitis. Can kids still get it even though she's had all her routine jabs?

Please hold my hand

Thanks so much for all the support, they are back now. Doctors weren't sure (but not meningitis thankfully!) so instructions are rest, fluids and Calpol until it runs its course. Fingers crossed it clears up soon and leaves DS alone

That's good news, hope you all get a quiet night.

I read your post and thought norovirus, one of the main symptoms is forceful vomiting (almost projectile), but you also get flu like symptoms so a fever, aches and pains are entirely possible.

We all had it last august (very contagious), my dd wasn't too bad, I and my dp were sick as dogs and my 1yr old ds fared best I think as he was still breastfed. It's really horrible but thankfully short lived - 24/48 hrs.

Keep a close eye on her and trust your instincts.

No problem, MakeTea, so glad she doesn't have meningitis. I'm a big worrier so those are the kind of things that keep me sane too. Hope DD gets well soon.

That's good news; hope she's feeling better today

Didn't want to say upthread, having encountered meningitis in DD2, those symptoms would have had me rush straight to A&E. I know the statistics generally work in your favour, but if your child is the one out of how many thousands they become irrelevant. The vaccinations cover a number of strains, but are a long way of providing protection against all forms. I'd urge everbody to have a quick refresh of the menigitis symptoms and remember thay they don't all appear at the same time.

Even now, keep a close eye - it can be hard to catch and there are too many stories of children being sent home over a period of days before meningitis is finally diagnosed

Thanks again for all the support, it's a lonely time waiting for updates on a poorly child. The good news is she is so much better this morning though temperature still a bit high so we are having a duvet day of cbeebies and Calpol.

I hope those whose LOs have experienced mentions, pneumonia and worse are all 100% again now
