DD's friend and the sugar high - Like being drunk! Could it be diabetes?

My 12 year old DD had two friends for a sleepover last night (although no sleep was had by any of us). I had given my DD some Tesco sweets (free from artificial preservatives etc) and some chocolate for them to have as as treat. They also had some lemonade. One of them had brought a box of Capri Suns and lots of hula hoops (and some more chocolate). So, you know nothing, that you might not get at a regular kids party. By midnight my DD came through saying that one of her friend's wasn't well and I just thought that she was feeling sick from too much sugar and over excitement. But she was acting very weird indeed, she was like she was drunk, she was coming out with really silly random things, giggling constantly, had talked of blurred vision, and her heart was beating pretty fast. My DD and the other friend said they hadn't seen anything like it before and that she hadn't taken anything (no drugs or alcolhol - as you would damn well hope not!!) and I just thought it was a weird adverse reaction to sugar. I did call her mother about it and we agreed to monitor it through the night. When she started to come to from it all she had no memory of the things she had said or done. Then the other one started feeling unwell and untimately they were taken home at 4.45am!! (Sleep? Who needs it...??) but I think that was for other reasons. My question is (and sorry for taking so long to get to it) in the light of day, I am wondering if this is maybe an indicator of Type 2 Diabetes and if so, should I mention it to her mum that she should perhaps get her checked? I don't want to either alarm her or stick my oar in but genuinely concerned by it all as I have never seen any reaction to sugar like that before. Any advice greatfully received! :-)

The fact that both guests got unwell in the end would make it unlikely that it is diabetes IMO.

It is possible to have a sugar overdose, it is actually quite dangerous and you can even collapse. I once witnessed a kid with a severe sugar overdose as he had eaten a whole pack (250 g) of marzipan. He collapsed, was sweating a lot, very fast heartbeat, complained of dizziness and then became unconscious. According to the medics this had been caused by the huge amount of sugar he had consumed.

It is also possible that they did have some form of drugs, they may not even have known it. Where did the Capri Sun come from? Did the girl take it from home or got it otherwise? Kids experiment and it is not unheard off that 12 year olds start experimenting. Probably worth to have a chat about it.

My niece used to become exactly like that if she ever had Sprite or 7Up (or whatever they call it now) but literally, only that drink, so we assumed it must have been a reaction to a specific additive.
She's grown out of it now.

Thanks for your replies. I did at first think the two of them being the way they were was linked but i think the second one has undiagnosed wheat intolerance or coeliacs. Her sister and mum have it as do i and she was eating things i know i wouldn't be able to have. Her issue was more about her stomach. The capri suns were bought from a shop and state that there was nothing artificial. But interesting to know that one of you has seen this reaction in another kid? I am always pretty strict with the levels of sugar mine have but i find it hard to say to two pre teen kids who i don't know very well that they have had enough. They were playing with normal make up but not anything toxic. I hand on heart don't think that theyere experimenting with anything dodge y. Just concerned as never seen a reaction like that before. Maybe it's nothing. I'll see what her mum thinks later. Thanks again for responses.
