Ds is a week old today :)
His cord clip fell of on day 5 and since has been abit black...today it has bled abit! I've kept it clean and he doesn't seem overly bothered by it... I have the midwife coming to visit Tuesday but can it wait that long? She did say theres a drop in clinic over the weekend if I had any worries... or am I worrying about nothing?

Sounds normal to me. A bit of bleeding is no problem. Watch for signs of infection, a gunky discharge, but it all sounds fine to me, from what you've said.

It could be infected, go to the drop if if early tomorrow, if not phone out of hours GP as he may need anti biotics. If he has a fever take him straight to A&E.

Continuing to bleed is a sign of possible infection (should have said above sorry).

My DD's fell off really early and bled a bit - was getting rubbed by nappy which didn't help. If it starts to get red around the skin it could be infected. My DD ended up with a prescription of Fucidin antibiotic cream as it was reddened and generally lookef soggy, and not really healing/drying up. It took about 3-4 weeks to really heal properly but she never ever appeared in discomfort. Keep checking it at each nappy change and give tummy plenty of air, but don't unduly fret and just keep showing to midwife at check ups. Temperature would be sign for immediate help needed.

Nobody will ever think you're daft for taking a newborn to drop ins or GP or hospital to get things checked out by the way, even if it turns out to be fine, so if in doubt or you're just fretting and need reassurance do go in.

Going black and a bit of bleeding can be normal.

The main sign of infection in an umbilical cord is redness on his tummy around the base of the stump. Any of that get him seen straight away.

It's dry, not soggy or weeping and bled just abit...not much, just enough for me to have noticed. If that's any further help :)

Dd's definitely bled a bit just before it fell off. The fact it's dry is a good sign.

Think I'll take him to the drop in tomoz anyway just to make sure.
