She is having a steriod break so her eczema has gone crazy and she is in a very poorly state. We are waiting for a hospital appointment.

On top of that her tongue hurts and is preventing her from eating as it's painful. I can't see anything on her tongue but she hasn't etaen properly for two days now.

She saw the GP yesterday, but as she wan't complaining of a sore tongue I just told them she was off her food. They said it was probably a virus. But now I know it's her tongue preventing her from eating.

Shall I phone NHS direct?

can she use a straw at all?

some thick shake/smoothie with ice cream or some soup might help keep her strength up while you find answers

if your DDs eczema is that bad, why didn't the GP check her mouth

CarriedAwayAnnie · 09/02/2013 14:26

I've just given her some yoghurt. Which seems to have gone down well.

I'm at a loss as to what be causing it? Is it the ezcema do you think? I don't know why they didn't check the inside of mouth.

Possibly a thrush infection? Or hand foot and mouth virus?

CarriedAwayAnnie · 09/02/2013 14:31

While I typed that last post I phoned NHS direct and they are going to phone me back .. within the next 6 hours.

Which is helpful.

Has she got a tempreture?

DameMargotFountain · 09/02/2013 14:34

i'm not sure it would be eczema without you being able to see a huge sore tbh - my money would probably go on a bit or oral thrush

has she had anti-biotics recently?

or is she cutting some teeth?

CarriedAwayAnnie · 09/02/2013 14:46

She started a course of antibiotics last night for her eczcema.

She isn't cutting teeth.

I can't see any sores at all in her mouth

OP posts:
CarriedAwayAnnie · 09/02/2013 14:47

No temp. just whiney and under the weather. But that could be down to the eczema being so painful.

It's hard to tell.

poor little thing Sad

are you able to use wheat baths at all?

that is very soothing - maybe if she's feeling less on the outside of her she'll be able to eat/drink?

CarriedAwayAnnie · 09/02/2013 14:59

How do I do a wheat bath?

Oral thrush?
My mum has it ATM and feels quite poorly with it.
Is her tongue white and furry?
You can get daktarin form the chemists for it.

Consider hand foot and mouth. I had it and my mouth was agony . Give bland soft food lots of pain relief. Ice pops? Dunno what a wheat bath is but could that cause allergic reaction? Oatmeal (porridge oats) in the toe of some old tights and run the bath water over it can be helpful with irritated skin.

DameMargotFountain · 09/02/2013 15:13

wheat bath

old sock/stocking/leg of tights
porridge oats in foot part, tie a knot in the end
run the bath water with the wheat-filled sock/whatever directly under the running tap
the 'milk' from this is very soothing to irritated skin

DameMargotFountain · 09/02/2013 15:14

same thing fusspot [great minds emoticon]

CarriedAwayAnnie · 09/02/2013 15:19

Thanks for the advice about the wheat bath, I will that run that for her before bed.

I'm thinking of taking her round to the chemist so the pharmacist can look at her tongue.

OP posts:
DameMargotFountain · 09/02/2013 15:39

Good idea about the pharmacist

hope she's more comfortable soon

CarriedAwayAnnie · 09/02/2013 19:28

NHS direct phoned back and told me to take her to the out of hours service.

They diagnosed her with tonsillitis and that's why her eczema is so bad atm. Her immune system is low or something.

Thanks for all the advice. Off to run a wheat bath for her Smile

DameMargotFountain · 09/02/2013 19:36

oh bless her - DD has recurring tonsillitis, it's horrible for them

hope she's better soon

CarriedAwayAnnie · 09/02/2013 19:44

Thanks Dame. She's very low atm, very poorly. I just the Antibiotics kick in soon.
