Hi. My 5 year old nephew fainted this morning for the first time and totally freaked his parents out. He has since been seen by gp who said all was fine. They kept him off school and he has been totally fine since. Anyone had anything similar? Should they be worrying?

had he eaten -low blood sugar?
is he or has he been ill in any way,
did he see something on tv or elsewhere which freaked him (i remember getting totally scared by a gorilla when i was wee and ran down the stairs 3 at a time before i realised it was only a picture )
i don't think it is right and it is soo scary when they are 'out' but my daughter had been vomiting so at least we had a reason -think my screaming for an ambulance brought her round -all the best to the wee man

I used to faint a lot when I was a kid. I would suddenly feel dizzy, then I would faint. It totally freaked my parents out, the doctors were worried for a time, and I had brain scans and blood tests which showed nothing. My blood pressure is quite low, so they put it down to that. I grew out of it when I was a teenager, and have been fine ever since, apart from when I was pregnant, then I was dizzy and fainting all the time.
No experience other than that I am afraid!

Thanks for replying. No he had just come downstairs and was stood up then collapsed onto his dad. Was only out for a minute. Not been I'll but could have been blood sugar. Very scary!!

My dd (8) fainted in the shower last month - she was ill, had a fever, and hadn't been eating so I put it down to that, but it was very distressing to experience.
If he wasn't ill, maybe it was his blood pressure. Apparently it is quite common for children to faint (I've done lots of googling, of course, since my dd did!)
Hope your nephew is ok now.

My dd faints all the time. Usually when she's poorly, sometimes when she's coming down with something. Sometimes if she's excited, nervous upset or scared.
However dd has another condition although its not thought to be linked tovthe fainting.

I used to faint as a child. Still do if my blood sugar is really low or I'm really shocked x
