Hi. My dd told me this evening that her boobs felt 'funny'. She showed me and sure enough just under the nipples they feel quite lumpy. I'm sure this is nothing sinister but could it be the onset of puberty? She is very petite - the smallest in her class - and very slim. I didn't start to 'develop' particularly early so I would be surprised if it was. She has been a little moodier than usual but I'd put that down to tiredness.

Could these lumps just disappear? Or is this it? Puberty has arrived at the grand old age of 7! I do hope not. It makes me feel sad! She still plays with dolls for goodness sake!

It could be breast tissue developing, however it may not coincide with a fast onset of puberty. If you are concerned best thing is to visit GP.

This happened to dd at age 7. After a few weeks they went back down. It happened again roughly a year later. Again, they went back down after a few weeks.
Then, a few months ago, just before her 10th birthday it happened again. And they did not go back down, she now has the beginnings of little breasts.

Apparently it is normal. It is caused by hormone surges as the body prepares for puberty.

Thanks both of you for your replies.

I have heard about surges of hormones occurring around 7 and this causing sleep problems, moodiness etc as well as lumpy boobs but it not really being puberty as such.

I'm hoping these lumps will disappear as quickly as they came but might pop to the doctors if they are still there in a week.

I know puberty is a fact of life but I hadn't vouched for it this early. On the other hand there are worse things that I could be asking advice about I suppose.

I don't think these surges are proper puberty. I had it explained to me as the body preparing itself, doing a few practise runs Smile

Certainly, whilst not all of dd's friends (well, those with mothers with whom I discuss these things) had these practise runs, most developed little breasts around the same time as dd (and despite having had these practise runs was not the first)

So I personally, from my experience with dd, don't think it is anything to worry about. But that is with hindsight. I did worry when it first happened, 'tis only natural Smile
