She caught this from me, she seems very mucousy, and has been coughing and sneezing. Is there anything i can do for her?

My DC1 caught a cold at 4wo and I remember feeling utterly useless.

I did call NHS Direct for advice. They said there wasn't much we could do, other than sleep her on a slant (head raised slightly) as much as possible. I would also recommend running the shower really hot and filling the bathroom with steam, then sit in there with her (at a safe distance from hot water/steam) as it helps to clear the mucus.

GP also once showed me a massage technique on the chest that helps, but with a little baby I wouldn't want to recommend it.

Your baby will be better before you know it, but the next few days will feel like a lifetime, I feel for you!

Good luck x

Just to add, you obviously can't give her any Calpol so young.

Not sure about Karvol/plug in inhalers and also "Snuffle Babe" chest rub as she might also be too young. Anyway I heard that plug in inhalers are currently in short supply in the shops? Maybe a few drops of menthol oil in a bowl of hot water in your/her room at night (again a safe distance away).

Is she feeding ok? Because of her age keep a close eye on her breathing and feeding and if at all worried don't hesitate to get her checked over.

My little one had this when he was 2 weeks old and it was horrible, i felt like crying! you can buy saline nasal sprays but I personally found this didn't help. My ds was waking up choking with all the mucus sitting inhis throat, I just kept him really close to me all the time and slightly tilted his crib. Hope your dd gets over it soon.

Thanks guys, I didn't think there was much we could do. She's feeding fine and sleeping in between feeds. I've got her in bed with me so I can keep a close eye on her. Just feel helpless and hate to see her suffer.
