GP or not?

DD1 (4) has had a slightly raised temperature (37.5-38) for four days now. She's definitely not feeling great, lots of meltdowns, not eating much, but she's also playing and not particularly lethargic. She has a cough and a runny nose - I would say she just has a cold but the raised temperature is unusual for her.

I have sent her to nursery today but have told them to let me know if she's not right and I'll go and get her; I'm just wondering whether I should take her to GP or not. I'm in Ireland so have to pay, which is fine but not that keen to do so to be told she has a cold, iyswim. Should I wait and see if it resolves itself, or does a sustained (but not very high) temperature suggest a trip to GP necessary?

Usually I'm a safer rather than sorry but in this case, if it were me, I'd leave it. Colds in my house usually last a week and if temp can be brought down with calpol then that's it really.

A raised temperature with a cold isn't unusual as it's the body's way of fighting the infection. I'd leave it too.

I wouldn't bother.

will leave it then - thanks for responding Smile

I would just wait a bit longer, seems more like a cold and her temperature is not very high. Anything below 37.6 I would consider within the normal range anyway.

There are lots of colds going round at this time of the year and there will not be much a GP can do.

Colds are best treated at home with rest and plenty of fluids. And any medicine you need (paracetamol etc) will be readily available from your local pharmacy.

If it becomes an ongoing problem then you should consult your GP.

No I wouldn't at the moment
