New born sicky eye

My three week old daughter has had sticky eye and has had it for about 2 weeks.
I've tried breast milk and keeping them clean. Now on to anti biotics. Nothing works. Should I keep cleaning them or leave to go sticky? Any help? Thank you

Keep cleaning with cotton wool and sterilised water.
Squirting breast milk in as often as you remember.
If it goes yellow / green, get to a Dr (DS1s sticky eye developed into an infection at a few days old - he was literally pouring yellow gunk out of his eye).

Sorry - just re-read, your LO is on antibiotics for it? Did you Dr say how long to leave it until going back? How long has she been on antibiotics? Has it improved and got worse again or just not improved?

If antibiotics aren't working, definitely take her back.

Good luck and congrats :)

Thank you. Been doing the anti biotics for two days seems to get better then go back to what it was. Going to wait until Monday then might go back to doc's.

It's quite common for new borns to have blocked tear ducts. The eyes don't drain properly so they are sticky but not infected. With true conjunctivitis the insides of the lids get very red. If its just blocked ducts it gets better when they are about a year old. In the mean time wipe from outside edge towards the nose with cotton wool and cooled boiled water. You can also massage the ducts by running your fingers from the inside corners of the eyes down the side of the nose towards the nostrils.

breast milk. persevere if you can - my dd's was all cleared up by about 6 weeks.

Bonzo is spot on. Also, not all sticky eyes are bacterial, they can also be caused by cold viruses and fungal/candida infections. Cotton wool balls dipped in a dilute baby shampoo and warm water will help clean the gunk off. Back to the doctors if the whites of the eyes start to look red.

Interesting she has got a little cold (brotherly love!) The whites of her eyes seem fine. Just wish they would clear up. Thank you

It's taken 5 days for my little girls sticky eye to clear up with antibiotic drops. When swabbed it came back clear with no infection but the drops seem to have done the trick. Doc said to continue with dops for 24-48 hours after the gunk has cleared.
