Bit of background, my DD had lots of ENT type issues when she was younger, between the ages of 3 and 5 yrs. In that time her eardrum burst 18 times and she had constant ear infections and enlarged adenoids and was under the care of the ENT team at the local children's hospital.
She had grommets which didn't really do much good, went dairy free, and then finally was given a steroid nasal spray (for adenoids) and put on long term low level antibiotics (for ears) which finally worked, although there was some debate as to whether she had just "grown out of it", or her tubes matured.
At the time she also attended a sleep clinic to see if the adenoids were effecting her sleep, but it was agreed the steroids would be enough and they wouldn't have to come out.
In the years in between she has had a few bouts of tonsillitis and ear trouble but nothing major.
Her ears seem to block really easily, pressure from being underwater or flying can cause days of not being able to hear. She didn't hear out of one ear for 10 days last summer after flying home from holiday.
So, she is now 12, since before Christmas she has been very nasally, major mouth breathing, noisily, during the day and very much at night. I also think her sleep is being effected as she has seemed fairly rundown (cracks at side of mouth, pale etc), she's had a constant running nose but she thinks it is blocked but can never do anything to clear it. Initially I just thought cold, but now I'm wondering if her adenoids could be enlarged again?
From a quick google it seems mainly younger children can be effected, and that they will start to shrink well before now, but due to her history, I'm not sure.
Wondering if anyone had any experience in the slightly older child?
