I am p*ssed off with dh for kissing both ds since he has had this outbreak of cold sores. However my feelings toward him regarding this is another issue!

ds1 is 2.5 years ds2 is 5 months. I am worried how likely it is that they will catch the cold sore now and the implications of this on them, particularly my youngest.

any ideas?

Have you ever had cold sores yourself?

nearlymumofone · 26/01/2013 22:01

no- but i have never kissed him when he's had them.

(NB- in my time I have kissed quite a lot of people, so I am thinking I could be someone that has the virus but just never had an outbreak!!!)

As far as I know it's fairly common. If you'd have as it then I'd imagine the little one would have picked up some immunity from you, but as you've not I'm not so sure about the situation sorry.

... I have just read the Joe v The Cancer thread and realise how silly and petty this thread is in comparison! Please ignore me. Blush

No it's real to you and important to you. You do hear of little ones being seriously affected but I'd always thought it was younger. Shame no one more knowledgeable hasnt come along

Just looked on NHS choices and it's only newborns they seem concerned about but I'm a firm believer in doing something rather than worrying so if you are still concerned then I'd suggest a call to NHS direct might be a simple low effort way to be doubly sure?

I think you need to contact NHS Direct for advice especially given the age of your youngest child. The Herpes virus can potentially be dangerous to young children but I am not sure if she is in that age group or not - NHS direct can tell you. If she is at risk they may give her antivirals. Antivirals can only work if administered asap, so it is not something you can take a wait and see approach.
