I think it's because he does about 10 poos a day so even when changed twenty mins later he's sitting in poo again. It's red raw round the bum and metanium having no impact. Nappy off time making it better but still bad. Any advice please?

I got some cream from pharmacy called ?contrane It's on the minor ailments scheme for my ds when his bum was sore from diarrhoea, I had to buy it cos I wasn't registered at the right dr but it only cost about 1.50 it worked really well, I'll check the name if I can find any

It's this:
www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=conotrane&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=8877661813&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14192218161019075463&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&ref=pd_sl_6if0f7auim_b
Don't know how to make a link on the app sorry but it has it's name in the link-conotrane Smile

The weleda calendula cream worked beautifully on dd who had shocking rash as a newborn.

Have you asked your HV? Some nappy rash can actually be thrush, and will need canesten type treatment.
I would think it's something other than nappy rash if metanium isn't shifting it.

Definately check for thrush.

But if you are using pampers nappies try another brand for a bit. Pampers new baby with the new green strip gave my son a rash so bad it would bleed. It then got infected.

We now use cloth. xx

Occasionally Metanium can cause skin irritation! Happened to poor ds. Red raw bum for weeks until I changed to a different cream and it was sorted within days. The one I swapped to was a French brand called Mustela, it is available in the uk but you'd have to check where or get it online.

GP gave me timodine which is mild steroid and also anti fungal. To use 3x daily for a week. Also bought conotrane for use the rest of the time.

DD had horrid nappy rash as a newborn (weeping, inflamed, bright red) and hospital recommended Bepanthen. It worked very quickly. The usual zinc stuff doesn't really work, ime.

I had to be careful with many of the nappy rash creams. Sudocream was the worst it actually caused a rash. Eventually discovered Waitrose bottom butter. Whatever you use don't plaster it on. Make sure the skin is dry and smear on a very thin layer to act as a barrier.
Make sure that you don't contaminate the cream with whatever might be causing problem so wash your hands once you have cleaned him up and apply cream with clean hands. It is easy to contaminate creams with thrush spores if that's what it is.
Also don't use wipes with new babies. Warm water and a fresh piece of cotton wool with each wipe. Sorry if you are doing this.
I would agree with trying different nappies.
If you are bf check with your HV to see if its anything your eating. Same with Bottle feeding could be formula problem.
I remember expressing after eating blueberries and my milk was purple. It's amazing how much b milk is effected by your diet.
