Thinking of doing a sponsored head shave?

I have hair past my shoulders but cut it sometimes (am a hairdresser) and have had it all lengths. Last night dp and I talked about me doing it short again, after looking at old pics and seeing it looks nice.

But then today I had an epiphany! I found out the other day that a baby at the end of my street has a rare cancer. His brother plays with ds2 and I know the family. Baby is so adorable, the sort you want to steal Blush

There's already fundraising going on for the charity but I thought I'd like to raise some for the family? Then thought I may shave my head, well I'd probably get a local salon to do it? I know it's cold but there are nice hats out there and my friend has wigs in her shop. Plus it grows fast.

Has anyone else done this? I just think it may have an impact with my hair already being long? Would be nice to get some cash for treats for the family.

Put a pic of me now on my profile.

Actually my hair's slightly longer than that, couple of inches or so. That was the last haircut I did when dss said I looked like Dawn French Confused

I won't suit my head shaved btw. Not like some you see who you think 'oh she looks so pretty' Nope won't be me, I'll look like my brother Grin But I really don't care.

Not so sure about this. Would you be raising money directly for the family? Or through the charity? Are you sure they want money raised directly for them?

I personally would rather sponsor someone to run a half marathon then shaving hair.

DeepRedBetty · 12/01/2013 13:50

Good for you - hope you raise loads!

CuriousMama · 12/01/2013 13:52

Lady I'd ask first, not them directly but I know people close to them.

I won't be running just want to do something I can do. There's been a toddle walk today and there's a football game going on tomorrow.

I've already donated to the cancer fund.

I think the sentiment is lovely. You are clearly very keen to help this family, and I'm sure they will be grateful for your help. Maybe you can do it through the charity?

CuriousMama · 12/01/2013 14:18

Thanks LM.
I'm feeling rather emotional about cancer at the moment anyway. A good friend has just been diagnosed with rare cancer too. She's an adult but I'll be there for her as well.

Fucking hate it Sad

Sad Having seen the spates on mumsnet about money raised for people, I would advice, to protect yourself, to fundraise through the charity rather then independantly. People can unfortunately get very nasty when it comes to money.

I wouldn't be doing it on here just locally and through family. There's already sponsored head shaves going on but I doubt any are female with long-ish hair?
I won't take responsibility for any cash raised but will leave it with their own family who also live close by.

Also the baby's brother goes to a local school so may even do it through them? There are so many possibilities.
