DS 10 just had a migraine I think. vvv painful headache, sick, fell asleep.
He has had many abdominal migraines since he was about 3 maybe 4 yrs old.

Do I need to keep him of school tomorrow? Will he be fine by the morning? Do I wake him up early to do his homework? Or write him a note? He is asleep in his PE kit at the moment.

DH is unobtainable at work until much later tonight and I could do with some advise please........

Let him sleep, it is one of the best ways of getting through a migraine.

I had them as a child and so do my DCs.

As regards tomorrow, everyone's migraine duration will be different - with my two I would imagine that they probably would be ok for school.

48 hour post vomiting kept out of school is for D&V type bugs, not for a migraine.

Hope he is better soon, they are horrible.

Google said being sick often marks the end of the migraine - would you agree with that? I'll write him a note for homework I think.

In my case I would disagree - certainly being sick helps make me feel a bit better but doesn't stop the violent headache / numbness / light sensitivity.

Hope he is feeling better today.

Thanks DeafLeopard, he went to school today albeit a bit pale and tired, but said he felt ok. I e mailed the teachers to let them know, and he was given the option of doing games this afternoon or not. He chose to take part, so that's a good sign.
It surprised me the amount of pain he was in, and the quickness he fell asleep - I literally popped in to say night night to dd, went back to ds and he was fast asleep!
I suppose now we wait and see how often they will happen.

Thank you for being on MN last night! Flowers

I took DS to the GP when his started - they can give strong medication that zaps a migraine if taken at onset, but it does leave him a bit spaced out.

They suggested keeping a food / emotions / sleep diary to see if there are any triggers.

Chocolate, coffee, red wine, cheese, pork, oranges are mine.

Light sensitivity also affects all of us - low winter sun reflecting on surfaces or flashing lights seem to trigger an aura, as well as stress and lack of sleep.

Sorry meant to add, it might be worth a trip to the GP and / or Optician.
