I got a letter this morning from Newcastle hospital as my daughter had a MAG3 scan. She's 18 months n when I was preg she had dilated kidneys. Soon after I had her, her kidneys improved. But on her 1 year scan I just got results back and they said - antenatal detection of hydronephrosis persisting postnatal ly previous improvement, now deterioration on ultrasound scan? What the f*k does this meen! Are my little girls kidneys failing ? Rotting ? Please some one help me :(

DO NOT PANIC!

Ok on Monday you need to go and see your GP and discuss this with them. If necessary you can ask them to refer you to a consultant to discuss the situation. I think that the report means that whilst your daughter's kidney situation had looked better on a previous scan it has now reverted closer to the situation seen when you were pregnant. This does not mean your daughter's kidneys are failing or rotting. It may mean she needs some help to enable them to work better or it may be a finding that will still improve in the future. This letter means nothing more than that something different has been seen. It's nothing critical right now because if it was believe me they wouldn't be sending a letter! You'd have known straight away. So DO NOT PANIC. Us ethe letter to get more information and remember there is a whol range of options and treatments for kidney problems. Your baby will be fine.

Thank you that made me feel a lot better ur right. She already sees a consultant, I'm going to ring him on Monday I'm so worried. They said if they get worse she would need an op and they have got worse so looks like an op is needed

Ok - well if so it will be a very routine thing for them (not for you I know!) She really is in the best position. Where you run in to trouble with kidneys is where things are going wrong but it isn't known, monitored or treated. Your dd's position is exactly the oppoiste to that.

I'm ringing her consultant tomorrow to find out exactly what's going on and out my mind at ease as she's in good health she has no infections in her kidneys so tnk I just panicked abit x
