Dd2 complaining of fast heart rate

lisad123 · 26/12/2012 20:48

Dd2 is 5 and has autism. She doesn't always makes sense. She's been very "off" for about a week, slightly off food and asking to go to bed by 6.30pm.
She looks fine and no temp. Tonight she has spent most of evening on the sofa and asked to go to bed. She said her heart was beating fast.
Would it be worth getting her checked out in the morning?

Have you felt her pulse? I'd agree with ringing nhs direct.

amillionyears · 26/12/2012 20:53

I am not a health person, but I agree with Monthly.

Pozzled · 26/12/2012 20:54

Have you checked her pulse? I'd do that then give NHS direct a ring.

cocolepew · 26/12/2012 20:55

I would ring NHS Direct or the out of hours Dr.

CaptainNancy · 26/12/2012 20:59

How is her colouring? Not blue at all round lips/fingers?

Whitegrenache · 26/12/2012 21:01

Check her pulse on her wrist....count how many pulses in 30 secs and x 2 for heart rate.
Anything over 100bpm is tachycardia in adults but children do have fast Heart rates normally.
Def ring NHS direct
Hugs x

Does she have a temp? Sometimes heart rate can increase in response to infection

Does she have a temp? Sometimes heart rate can increase in response to infection

Age 5-7 years - 65-133 bpm
Is normal heart rate

I checked at the time and seemed a little quick but she's a child so know its likely high. Checked her again and I think it feels irregular, dh says it seems fine to him.
Have called NHS direct and the man on phone said call GP in the morning, but he was stopped and now awaiting call back.

Bless her, now don't be alarmed.
Is it higher than 135?

Do you think it is irregular?
If so she needs a 12 lead ECG to see exactly what is going on.
It may be in response to a fever.
As long as she is breathing normally and does not go blue or limp, I am sure there is nothing to worry about.
How is she now?

lisad123 · 27/12/2012 00:05

Got sent to a&e by nhs direct. They gave her an ECG,mchecked her out. Said she seems fine but to come back if she gets worse or complains of it again a few times or gets pain.
