Can I have some advice wrt temperature.

I have very odd children that never really get temperatures so I am not very knowledgable. 8yo ds had a temperture Friday night, whole body hot, don't know what as I don't have a thermometer, went to the drs Sat morning as it hadn't come down, they said he had a chest infection (had had a cough for a while) and h has antibiotics.

His body now feels fine and normal, yet the middle of his forehead is still hot, is this normal? He has been on the antibiotics for about 36 hours and is seemingly load better in himself.

Anyone, pretty please.

If he is doing better in himself I really wouldn't be too worried. Probably worth picking up a thermometer when you are out shopping in the future though just for peace of mind with other illness.

You need a thermometer - electronic ear ones are the most accurate

If your child seems better - eating, drinking and not lethargic they're probably on the mend

I would disagree about needing a thermometer.
You knew he had a temp and now know that it has come down somewhat.

also apparently the back of the neck is the best place to test for temp.

It sounds like your insticts are well tuned.. trust them :-)

Also disagree with the need for a thermometer.

It tells you what you already know..he has a temperature, and will not change the way you treat him.

Paracetamol or better still brufen as it lasts longer to bring down the temperature..but what it mostly does is ease the uncomfortable symptoms of a temperature.

What you need to know is that a hgh temperature is the bodies natural and normal response to infection. It helps to kill the infection withint he body. So what dmapen that?

At his age he is unlikely to have convulsions, so just ride the storm, lots of cold drinks, icepops etc and paracetamol/brufen.

It looks like it is on the way out this evening, though I think he might be getting a cold, poor thing.

I have never wanted a thermometer as I suspect it would make me paranoid. Plus my dr has drummed into me the fact that some minor illnesses can cause a very high temperature while some sever illnesses can cause only a low one. So it is better to look at the child as a whole.

I agree about the temp thing. My friends little one has had 3 convulsions so far, and the info she has been given is that the problem can be caused by the speed of of the increase and not the actual temp.
