Chickenpox day 3-4 and vomiting?

Is chickenpox usually associated with vomiting? There's not much info on the internet about this so I'm thinking perhaps not.

The spots and itching are very uncomfortable and DD has had a tired and lethargic day after a night of poor sleep. She has eaten a little (a flapjack and some chocolate milk) and drunk plenty of water.

I left her with ExH (her dad) to do some xmas shopping this afternoon and he called me an hour later to say that she had started vomiting. I came home and found that she was throwing up repeatedly, largely just liquid since she has eaten so little. She didn't seem to be able to keep anything down for more than a minute or two.

This went on for about an hour (and several changes of bedding on the sofa) and she has now thankfully drunk another glass of water and fallen asleep.

I was considering phoning NHS Direct but there's no associated fever, pain or any other symptoms to report and it does seem to have calmed now.

I don't remember vomiting with chickenpox when we were kids but DD does have quite a sensitive stomach and often vomits if she cries or coughs too much.

Anyone else seen this in their children with CP? I really, really hope this isn't norovirus or something similar on top of the 'pox...

Very likely to be something on top of the pox I'm afraid.

With dd2 it was a raging ear infection on top of the pox, only discovered after being admitted to hospital for 12 hours!

Yes, does look like something else going on at the same time. Hospitalisation and raging ear infection sounds pretty extreme - hope it was all treated pretty quickly once diagnosed for your DD2.

With bad memories of the norovirus in previous years I'm washing everything in sight with bleach solution...

Temperature is now 39.32 but at least the vomiting hasn't recurred and she's managed to keep down a mini pot of chocolate fromage frais and fall asleep. Calpol is in reserve - she hates the flavour so it's not the first thing I reach for but good to have on hand.

I called NHS Direct but they're really busy and only taking urgent cases so we've decided to call back if her temperature hits 40 or anything else happens.
