Movicol side effects?

Hi,

My 18mo son has had constipation and today the doctor prescribed Movicol. One sachet a day, which is apparently the lowest dosage. Anyway, apart from not pooing for about 5 days he's been absolutely fine. Until the Movicol.

We gave him some juice with the sachet in it at about 3pm. After showing no signs of being ill all day he vomited his dinner at 5 and then at 7 he vomited his milk, which he has before bed. Since then (it's now 9pm) he's vomited bile a couple of times.

I read the 'common' side effects of Movicol include vomiting, but I'd have expected side effects to show after or during a course of treatment, not after one sachet.

Has anyone any experience of side effects from Movicol? If so, how long did they last?

Thanks

Matt

I haven't had any side effects with DS apart from massive increase in pooing. Could be this nasty vomiting bug that's going around?

Vomiting can be a side effect of constipation. I've got two children on it and never had a problem with vomiting from it, I agree it would take more than one dose to show up. It's supposed to be one of the best laxatives around, you can increase the dose quite high without ODing on it (just obviously lots of pooh!)

Did you give a full sachet BTW? Might be best doing half am/ half pm, not for reaction, we were told however much we give to spread it through the day.0
