8mo in pain when pooing

DD has been prone to constipation since she was tiny so, on the advice of the hv, was on comfort milk until she was weaned (was ff from about 10 days old). She's now 8.5mo and is still having trouble. She's on 6m+ milk now, has plenty of fruit and water and I've tried diluted prune juice none of which seems to help. She goes every 1-2 days but each time she goes she screams her head off and the poo itself is like a golf ball! I don't know what to do for her anymore - just wanted to see if there was anything else I could try before I go to the GP.
TIA

Hmm I'm not sure there is much else tbh - DS had this at a similar age and we tried everything you did, with a bit more success it seems though. Getting him to drink more water & mashing up a prune or two into his porridge / weetabix definitely helped us. He has also been on comfort milk since about 3 or 4 weeks old. Maybe a little bit of gentle tummy massage in a warm bath?

I got told to add apple juice to my DS routine and he had it everyday and pooped at least twice a day no I have weaned him off it (didn't want him to be addicted to it) and he has apple in at least one thing a day (I.e. apple and banana porridge) maybe try more fibre in the diet. As a quick fix I was told brown sugar and water when he was newborn but I think looking at they diet requirements is healthier for you little one.

Also am not sure with other brands but I use aptimal comfort milk and it can be used from birth to 1 year. Have you changed milks?

A spoonful of brown sugar mixed in water..

Why would you not take her to the go? She clearly needs proper meds

Nanny, as I say I want to make sure there is nothing obvious that I haven't tried. Seeing as the only new thing is the brown sugar I'll be getting her a GP appointment in the next couple of days.

Haven't changed formula she's always been on cow & gate.

If she's on 6+ milk I'd change her back to the one she was on before. Prunes, raisins, juice to up water intake. Make aure meals are balanced with plenty of fruit and veg. Avoid yoghurt if she's having plenty of milk be careful with bananas. I sympathise dd1 was like this dd2 tends to be more the other way.
