8 month old bottom bleeding

DS has had diarrhoea yesterday and today, and his bottom has been increasingly red and sore looking despite using barrier cream. Just changed him now and he's bleeding a little around the anus, and is very distressed when it is touched. Is there anything else we can do aside from barrier cream?

What barrier cream are you using? Do you use wet wipes? If so, what brand and are they fragranced?

I'd give him a bath in a few drops of soothing lavender oil twice a day and maybe coat his tiny bot in some olive oil to help heal the cuts. I'd try not to wipe the poo away: it would be baths post-poo to make sure that no poo could infect the cuts. Lots of work for you, but I think that would help him.

Poor baby - hope he gets well soon x

Bepanthen and Tesco own brand unscented wipes. Don't think I have any lavender oil left, shall try the oil though, thank you! Poor little thing is teething too, so not having a great time today.

Ah, the increased acidity in his wee due to teething will be irritating/stinging and worsening the cuts on his bottom. No wonder he's distressed.

Sounds like you're using the right stuff in the meantime. Holland and Barrett sell good quality lavender oil.

Hope your little man recovers asap.

if he's that sore i woukdn't use wipes on him till he's better

I'd take him to see a doctor if I were you. Dd got nappy rash with little open sores that just wouldn't heal, got prescribed a special cream to put on really thinly underneath barrier cream. It cleared up pretty quickly then.

I've just had three weeks of this, DD's bottom and vagina looked as though she'd been scalded with an iron complete with bleeding blisters if I didn't get a soiled nappy off within 5 minutes. It's been hell. Showers, no wipes and the only thing that worked for us was medicated powder as the explosive poos meant no nappy free time so I couldn't get her skin to dry enough to heal. I'm not entirely sure that medicated powder would be recommended so try everything else first.

Turned out to be an allergy to strawberries, not teething or a virus. Strawberries were the only thing she'd eat......Sad
