Little girl in close family. Both sides of family are "big", so she has kinda inherited it, but mum is totally blind to it, claiming she is just big boned etc etc.

Her diet isn't particularly unhealthy, she just eats a lot, almost adult sized portions, and does no exercise really. She is uncomfortable in her clothes, knickers rubbing and leaving marks and such like.

I'm just wondering whether she has an underlying medical condition, and how best to talk to her mum to maybe get her checked out. The HV came a few months back, and raised concerns, asked her to make an appointment with GP but as far as I am aware she didn't go.

Little girl is 4.5 btw, and although she is quite tall for her age, weights just under 4.5 stone, which is way off the charts.. HV said she should be 3 max
Sad

Any ideas? Or just keep my nose out? Like I said its a close family member, and I am just worried that once she starts school next year that kids can be so cruel.

If they are a large family then they either have a large frame or they over-eat.
Adult portions daily for a child of 4 are going to mean the kid puts on weight.

If not active then it's just turning into fat mass.
Is there anyone in the family circle who could chat to the mother ( but it sounds like the entire family would have to change their attitude and habits to food) ?

There's a group set up for families especially working with kids and their parents to help them live a healthier lifestyle. But obviously the parent needs to want to do it
