Dd is 10 and has been saying she's struggling to hear properly for weeks now. I took her to the gp who said there was wax in her ears & gave us some olive oil drops. We used these for a while but there seemed no difference.
Took her back to the gp who said one ear looked ok (she could see the eardrum) but the other was still full of wax. She advised syringing so we booked an appt. In the meantime I got some Otex drops to try.
Syringing appt should have been tomorrow but it's been cancelled as the nurse who was going to do it has changed jobs, and there's no-one else who can do it for an under-16 yr old (?) They've advised us to ring the ENT dept of the hospital for advice.
Can anyone help? She still can't hear and is struggling in school. I don't know if it's just wax or something else - I've been putting the drops in but don't really know if they're doing any good and I obviously can't see if there's wax in there or not.
Do you think she does need them syringing? There seems to be some issue about whether or not they can be done as she's only 10. If not what else is there? She's getting distressed by it and just wants to get it sorted out. Any ideas?
