Enlarged lymph nodes and anaemia

DS is 3. Two weeks ago I noticed an enlarged lymph node in his neck. It was round and could be moved around.
I took him to GP who wasn't concerned and said to come back in two weeks.
The following week I noticed a few smaller nodes on the same side, and some on the opposite side of his neck and I took him to see a different GP. She ordered a FBC and it showed he was anaemic- she didn't tell me his HG.
His FBC was taken again as was his ferritin and I'm see GP tomorrow.
The larger node seems to have changed shape slightly and has become less round.
He's had two infections recently and has been very snotty. He also has a suspected dairy intolerance.
Can anyone offer any advice on what I should do next? Should I push GP from further investigation? Take him to be examined privately?

My DS (now 8) was referred twice to paeds with enlarged lymph nodes (the size of a malteser i would say) - one both occasions the paediatrician was happy that it was nothing to worry about. He did do full blood counts on both occasions and discharged him ..... The lumps are still there but tend to go up and down when he's had a cold!

Within a month both times - where abouts in his neck is it? DS's were under his jaw.....he also has shotty glands in his armpits and groin!

Side of neck close to the muscle and some behind his ears. We should know more tomorrow

My ds has a large kidney bean size one since he was 18 months. He's now 4 and it's still there, very alarmingly obvious when he turns his head sometimes!

We were referred to a consultant paediatrician at the hospital to rule out Amy nasties but our minds were put at ease straight away. They can usually tell just by feeling it. We never had to have blood tests or anything.

What did they say?

That he needs a referral. NHS will be a few weeks because of Christmas, but the next private consultation is in Jan. Didnt want to wait that long.
His HB is up by 0.3 and his white cell count is mainly fine/ there was elevation of the allergy strand.

I would personally get him checked privately asap ..
Its not worth the risk when it comes to small children ,

I want him seen before January 8th but there are no appointments. I'm calling the private clinic everyday. I'm tempted to take him to A&E

From what you're describing it really doesn't sound sinister....the paed told me that children who have anything nasty (leukeamia, hodgkins were what i was worried about) would be very unwell....he also said that they tend to me swollen nodes close to the clavicle rather than in the neck

I would try not to panic. I know it's easier said than done. How big is the most prominent node?

If your gp thought it was sinister he would have done a two week urgent referral. They did this in my ds's case to rule out lymphoma but the gp stressed to me he was sure it wasn't but if he didn't put that on the referral we wouldn't be seen for weeks. He could see how worried we were I think.

However the consultant went a bit mad that we'd been referred ( he must see this sort of thing all the time) and he confirmed what the previous poster said that if he'd got cancer he would be very ill within a short time. In my ds's case his lump is probably a lymph node that was enlarged through infection and never went back to it's original size.

It's still there, no bigger, no smaller and very visible when he turns his head. I just try and ignore it.

If I were you I'd try and get seen before Xmas. Not because I think you've got anything to worry about but because I know how worried I was (I couldn't eat or sleep until we got the all clear). Get it out the way and then you can enjoy Xmas

Thank you all. That's reassuring to know. He's fine in himself and went to the GP dressed as Spider-Man yesterday and was pouncing all over the surgery
The largest node is about the size of a 5p but is sometimes difficult to locate unless he's in a certain position.

I'll keep calling the private hospital

Yes! He’s 11 now and very healthy.
He had lots of tests following his consultation (including an endoscopy and colonoscopy) and they advised for the small amounts of dairy he was having to be removed from his diet.
He still has enlarged lymph nodes but they haven’t caused him any problems
