Hi, can anyone offer advice, over the last 4 weeks my Daughter when watched is constantly swallowing her spittle, in her own funny way she says oh I've been doing it since I was 4!! I've only noticed it like I said in last 4 weeks it looks very annoying for her. It is not painful there is no reddening anywhere but it's hard for her to describe, she eats as normal. Her tonsils are large, they always have been, she snores occasionally and eats lets say delicately but again, always has done. She describes it as 'I've got loads of spit Mum!'
Thanks for reading this far, hope you can throw some light on it!

I can't offer an explanation but if it were me, I'd make an appointment to see the GP just to check it out.

Everyone constantly swallows their own saliva (1-1.5 litres a day on average). Can you explain what it is you are concerned about?

Andrea48 · 23/11/2012 16:23

Swallowing excess saliva pooled in her mouth that she is either producing or can't get rid of.

Sorry, I'm a dentist and I can't see anything wrong with that. We all swallow saliva all the time. As children's mouths are small they can fill up with saliva quickly.

DS has post nasal drip, was always choking on saliva, sounded like he was drowning on occassion.
A steroid nasal spray has helped.
Speak to your GP.

Could be acid reflux, bodies make extra spit to neutralise the acid.

Ds1 does this. He is seven. He sucks in spit when he's talking every few words. I think it's just a habit but will be interested to see whether the specialist thinks there's a problem with your dd
