Threadworms in DD's vagina. Sorry - know's it's gross. Any advice...? Please!!

DD has had worms before and we have treated with tablet (another dose in a fortnight), done the bedding/pjs/towels/pants repeatedly in a hot wash etc etc. She has been infected a number of times, however the problem now has even more grossness, as last night she was in a lot of distress at midnight and I went investigating with a torch.....to discover there was nothing around the back.....but worms coming out of her vagina. Is this common? Will normal worm medication fix it? The thought of 'normal' worms is vile enough....but this is a whole new level. Is there anything that will help above what we have tried (vaseline or sudocreme on the area to try and stop the sensation being so awful whilst medication does it's job.)

They are just visiting from her bottom, they don't live in the vagina.

It can take a couple of days for the medication to kill the existing worms, then careful hygiene to reduce the risk of swallowing more eggs and getting more worms, IYKWIM.

I used to suffer from this as a child - it was bloody awful!

I seemed to catch them every 6 weeks from the age of 6 until I went to secondary school.

Seeing my distress, my DM took me to the GP, he suggested putting a piece of micropore tape over the anus overnight at the first sign of the little bastards!

I can't say that it was the most comfortable feeling but it was better than having fanjo worms!

It's normal (or as normal as it can be) because as Magi said, they are just visiting. You need to remove them (I use a cotton bud) and treat her as you normally would.

I think I can cope with the knowledge that they are just visiting rather than living there. DD also seeems to have them a LOT Fluffa. We do our best with all the hygiene stuff. I will try anything, so am now considering the micropore!

Is she a thumb-sucker/nail biter?

No, neither of those. She is 6 and we had the first incident at 2 and have had numerous others since. Never spotted them there before though....

As others have said, they're just visiting. Having said that, the slime they leave is very irritating. DD2 gets them a lot (habitual hand-sucker) and she screams with discomfort, so we have to use a cotton bud to get them out. Poor child.

Lots of sudocreme afterwards makes it more comfortable and acts as a barrier.

We do exactly the same as Lougle - well, I do. DH refuses to go worm-fishing.

DD1 is also 6 and more prone to them than DD2, despite the fact that DD2 is a finger-sucker and chews all manner of repulsive things. I suspect its because DD1 scrimps handwashing after the loo where as DD2 is meticulous about it.

The hard thing is policing hygiene, especially once they are at school all day and you aren't there to bellow "HANDS" up the stairs. We just keep nails short and are resigned to regular family doses of OVex.
