Ds has a tooth coming in behind his baby teeth - Wwyd?

He's almost 6 and has been complaining of a sore tooth / mouth. He doesn't have any wobbly teeth. When I feel behind his front tooth where he points to I can feel what I think is a tooth coming through.

Is this normal ish? Does he need to see a dentist?

Dsd had something similar. We left it and it caused the teeth in that area to be extremely crooked. When we did go, they removed the baby tooth easily. I'd take him to see a dentist, just in case.

It is common, not necessarily normal. Usually the tooth pushing up would be directly below the baby tooth, and as it pushes the roots of the baby too start to resorb (disappear) and this is why they become loose & fall out. Of course because the tooth is pushing up behind, this isn't going to happen, so a trip to the dentist would be your best bet.

Leaving it isn't necessarily going to cause the teeth to become crooked, that will be down to many factors to be fair.

DD1 had this - you need to go to the dentist as soon as you can (although it's not an emergency). As differentnameforthis says the baby tooth's roots are not going to get "dissolved" by the new tooth coming up under it so it will need to be removed. The teeth will then be out of line but should shift a fair bit once the baby tooth is out of the way. Then any bit of misalignment will be sorted out later with a brace. It's fairly common but of course not very pleasant when your dc needs to have a tooth popped out. The good thing is that you have noticed it now rather than once the new tooth is pretty far out so the shift should be better than if you had left it until the new tooth was right through.
