DD (6) diagnosed with unilateral deafness - anyone else out there?

DD has just been diagnosed as having mild to severe sloping deafness in her left ear. Fab consultant has suggested that a hearing aid would be a great help, which luckily DD is really excited about (she thinks it will be really cool to have one!), but just been looking on NDCS website and other threads here and would love a guiding hand through the maze of information!

Anyone esle who has a child with a unilateral hearing impairment?

Yes my DD aged 6 also diagnosed with severe hearing loss to left ear. She has been fitted with a hearing aid and wears it just for school. It has really helped her.

Classmates have been very supportive

My son has bi lateral loss (both ears). His loss is moderate /severe. He is a great lip reader. He wears two aids and had a radio transmitter when at school. He is now nearly 20 and just going into his 2nd year at uni. So just to let you know that kids adapt and it doesn't have to hold them back Smile Smile

My DS is profoundly, bilaterally deaf, so a bit more extreme, but he's 8, signing like a professional and doing really well at school. Other children are fascinated and, if they even notice he doesn't talk (which surprising numbers don't!), are completely I fazed by it. He makes friends everywhere he goes. I don't even think of it as a disability, to be honest.
