Is this the starting of chicken pox, or not?

I noticed a spot on DD's back yesterday lunchtime, but as it was one on it's own I thought it might be a bite or something... Anyway, last night at bedtime I noticed about 7-8 more, mainly on her arms and legs. They feel raised and look like they have, or are developing a head.

I put her to bed expecting her to wake up covered, but she only has the same amount as she went to bed with Confused

She has been very snotty for a couple of days with a bit of a cough, but no temp that I have noticed...

I am worried as I have never had it!

What do they look like. If blisters then yes it is.

Good luck. DS just getting over his and was most unwell. Calpol and poxclin will be your friends.

curlyLJ · 18/09/2012 09:14

yes they do look like blisters, but I always thought there would be loads of spots not just 8-10! I also would have expected more to appear overnight...

DS1 only had about 6 or 8 spots all in. I thought they were bites first of all, but they did develop into blisters. He was totally 100% well in himself.

Because they were puss filled blisters and went through the whole scab over thing (they never itched him). I kept him in for a week (agh!).

Exactly 14 days later, DS2 was covered in them, itchy and quite unwell with it. Obviously DS1 just had a really mild version on it.

sheeplikessleep · 18/09/2012 09:17

BTW not all of them were puss filled either with DS1, he only had 1 or 2 that looked like the typical blister filled chicken pox spot.

Yes it is. Get yourself pain meds, antihistamine, bicarbonate of soda for the bath water, aqueous cream with calamine lotion in it (OTC at boots) and Eurex cream. If they start looking really nasty, weepy pussy like with a high temperature go to GP and get antivirals.

Thanks all. I have uploaded (I think) a pic to my profile if anyone has a sec to have a look...?

She's not really bothered by them tbh - she's not scratching (yet) and so I will just watch and wait I guess. Have all the meds in the cupboard from last time I suspected it (it wasn't).

Yes it sounds like the bout DS had. A few spots and over with.

Poor DD has them now and she is completely covered in them. Poorly fed up and driven mad with the itch.

BeaWheesht · 18/09/2012 12:21

Sounds like it ds had two pix for two whole days ten by day 6 was absolutely covered. If you get it you may be given anti vitals As you're an adult

BikeRunSki · 18/09/2012 13:59

That sounds exactly how DS's pox started a couple of months ago. It too five days of "is it, isn't it" for the spots to blister and lots more to appear, but when it did happen there was no doubt.

curlyLJ · 18/09/2012 17:25

Thanks for all the responses. I just popped into Boots with her and pharmacist was pretty certain that the spots look like classic CP. He said that if it is, she will most certainly get more over the next few days - but I don't think any new ones have appeared since this morning Confused

I'll just have to wait it out now I suppose and see if they blister, burst and scab...and to see if I come down with it too.

Curly, DS got 3 spots on his shoulder blade which looked like insect bites. I only suspected cp because it was about. They did nothing for 5 days, then he got about 200 spits overnight. Once they started coming out, more came out as you looked at him and kept coming for about 3 day.

curlyLJ · 19/09/2012 20:38

2 more spots today, so we are up to a grand total of 14! This is either the calm before the storm or she has got away with a very mild case...
She is bouncing around as normal and is fine in herself Grin

I, on the other hand, am now on constant spot check on myself in case she has passed it to me Sad

Took about 3 days from the first few to a torso full of them! Ds wasn't 'poorly' at all just itchy.

dobalina · 19/09/2012 21:04

Yes they did look like insect bites. We were in Scotland and had been bitten by midges so thought was that at first.
