B.O in a 7 year old??!

DD came home from school today smelling quite strongly of B.O!

This has never happened before, she showers every day and has clean clothes, she hadn't even had PE today.
Is this normal?

She isn't showing any signs of an early puberty.

Just google it, you'll see you're not alone!

I know that boys have a surge of hormones around this age and apparently can smell a bit! (Haven't noticed it yet in my boy.)

My dd had this from age 5... And from the research I did apparently its quite normal, she is now 9 and showing no signs of puberty in any other respect so it must just be one of those things. I do make sure she wears deodorant everyday which stops it completely. Hope this helps.

Thank you.

It does help a lot, more than googling!

Her underarms looked a bit sore tonight, so think she may have not been drying herself very well and could have a touch of thrush or something.

dd1 has had smelly little pits on and off since she was 5. No sign of puberty yet, and she's nearly 9 Smile

I got her some Tom's of Maine natural deodorant, and make sure she knows about hygiene etc, and just explained some girls' bodies grow up quicker in some ways than others, and its all quite normal. She's fine about it. HTH

Ds has this too. I mentioned it to another mum and she looked at me like she thought I was crazy.

It's not that unusual though according to good old Google!

With ds, I am particularly aware of it when he wears a polyester type shirt e.g. his football short and ensure he washes his armpits when he has his shower. I will get a natural deodorant if needed but so far this has fended it off.

Both my dds had BO 7 and both started periods at 12. I was worried it was early pubery but it wasn't.

AlistairSim · 20/09/2012 18:04

Thank you so much for the reassurance, all of you.

She didn't seem as smelly today or yesterday, despite doing a cross-country run. So don't know whether it was from not drying well enough or waht but I think I'll get her a deo-rock to try.
The hard part will be explaining it to her, she is hugely sensitive and I expect will be horrified. Sad

DD had this, briefly.
I read about it being related to hormones in dairy and switched to organic milk, which seemed to have an effect. Could have been coincidence though. You can also get salt deodorant rocks that have no nasties in and neutralise any smell. Holland and Barrett do 'em.

But I see you know that Grin

Dd almost 9 has had this for about a year. Guess they are just growing up....

She also has a few grease spots and almost blackheads on her nose (washes her face twice a day) Think her specs might be adding to that..

DottyDot · 20/09/2012 18:15

Ds2 (8) has been sweaty and smelly since he was 7. I noticed it getting worse recently - probably because he's very active - so I told him his sweat hormones have kicked in and it's time to have regular showers (he was a once a week boy...Blush).

He's really proud! And very pleased his older brother's sweat hormones haven't kicked in yet Grin.

So it's now showers every other day + after football and a spray of Lynx to make him feel all grown up and manly!

AlistairSim · 20/09/2012 19:01

Yes, Sue, I know everything apart from all that stuff I don't know, but that stuff is most likely boring anyway.

I'm liking the manly 8 year old, that may work with DD as she thinks she is actually Ron Weasley atm.
