DD's on going ear problems-at wits end :-(

Dd almost 7 has had on going ear problems for the last yr.

She has had numerous ear infection. Finally got referred to ENT doc who said it was glue ear. His first plan was a course of antibiotics for 7 weeks.

This was in June. Since then whilst taking the antibiotics we have been back to our docs three times with ear infections. Our doc prescribed two sets of different antibiotics. The ENT doc was away and agreed to see her on his return.

When he did see the infections had finally cleared up and he left us with a wait and see. She also had a hearing test which was dreadful ( the woman who did it didn't seem to have a clue) and I have requested another one, still waiting.

Last weekend, Dd had a massive temp, sore ears and sore throat. We have been been to the docs three times this week (he requested to see her and it's still the same) he is very wary of prescribing more abs as she has had so miserable. She came home from school yesterday miserable hot and in pain. I am at my wits end and just want my my little girl well again.

Any advice, help much appreciated.

Is there any way you can go private? They will be more proactive, do the tests properly and whip out her tonsils and adenoids if needed.

She doesn't do a lot of swimming or anything odd though?

That was a private ENT doc Sad she used to do alot of swimming but we have pretty much stopped her going now until this is sorted.

Funnily enough the ENT doc said that swimming won't affect her Hmm I am not taking any chance!

Thanks for responding x

Wow, I would find another consultant then. As its private you should be able to move but also you're able more to push for different options. We have had to hold ours back from surgery but are now going ahead as the situation has got so bad.

Has he not discussed it at all?

I think that's a load of old gubbins about the swimming, I get an ear infection after every single holiday due to swimming pools.

If the long term abs didn't work he was all for getting grommets in. Typically when he saw her at the end of Aug (after all the abs our doc had given her) her ears looked ok. A week later and we were back to poorliness!!

He said that he needs to see her when she has a full blown ear infection, I think that's why our docs keeps wanting to see her. It's just so hard as she is obv under the weather but I guess the ENT doc thinks we should just ride it out for now.

The last thing I want is for dd to have to have the surgery but when your child is constantly unwell and it impacts on everything we do ( hols ruined for her due to poorly ears, play dates cut short as she is not feeling well, missing gym yest as feeling unwell) enough is enough!

A small thing, but my daughters consultant recommended giving her sudafed as soon as we knew an infection was threatening, and it cut down her infections dramatically. Stops the fluid building up.

Thanks for that Sloe will give that a try Smile
