Sleep anxiety on overnight trip with school

My nearly 9yrs dd had terrible sleep anxiety earlier in the year and the gp said if ever needed she could use Alimemazine tartrate again.
So as she is going away for the first time and very anxious she asked if she could have the sleepy medicine. I said yes and was about to take it into school so that they could have it ready for the trip next week when I noticed the bottle was out of date. I rang the gp and was told a message would be left for a prescription.
However had a call this evening from another gp saying they could not prescribe it for school trips in case it develops a habit!
arrrrrgggg, sorry, my dd is stressed like crazy now.
I have another phone call scheduled with the original gp I saw, tomorrow but not sure they will have anything different to suggest. But it just seems quite harsh to make a nearly 9yr old girl so worried.

I know some will say she might be fine but my dd will worry about absolutely everything.
I have thought of putting some lavendar oil in a little spray for her pillow to make her think she is doing something to make her sleep as i am lost as to what else I can suggest to make her look forward to the trip again.

Would an antihistamine like Piriton make her sleepy? You won't need a prescription for that.

I hope the original GP comes through for you tomorrow.

the gp called today and suggested piriton as well.
She is happy with that and school have been fabulous with someof the really
amazing teachers going making her feel good about it and making sure she has a bunk next to the teachers room to make her feel more secure.
So getting her some pillow spray and lovely things for her wash bag tomorrow.

That's good news!

The teachers sounds lovely.

Would it be worth giving them an ipod or mp3 player for them to let her use if she still can't sleep?

I took mine when I went away with DD's class for a week. Several children who couldn't sleep borrowed it and found it a lifesaver. Audiobooks and music can make homesickness disappear for a bit.
