Son gone into a strange state - help!

Was just having a hot chocolate with DS (8) and DD in a coffee shop when he he said he felt sick and got up and started staggering towards our car. He was walking funny and kept walking off in a confused zombie like state. He didn't throw up. When I got him home he burst into tears and kept saying "You're not my mummy" and that he wanted to go home. I am his mummy and we were home!!

I hugged him for 15 mins as he was crying. He then went quiet and started watching the telly. When I questioned him about his behaviour it seems his last memory is in the coffee shop and can't remember getting home or the strange things he was saying.

It was almost as if he became a different person. Something similar happened a few days ago when I was telling him to do something and he was just ignoring me, staring zombie-like at me and flopping and rolling on the floor. He then seemed to come round, back to his normal self.

Am pretty freaked! Any ideas? He is usually a pretty normal boy - quiet but doing well at school and socializing etc. Could this be extreme tiredness or could it be something more sinister?

Some form of epilepsy would be my first thought, but I really don't know enought to comment further. Get him checked by your GP.

nkf · 12/09/2012 17:23

I think it sounds unusual enough to merit a visit to the gp.

barleysugar · 12/09/2012 17:23

It sounds a bit like a petit mal. But I strongly advise you take him to the gp before you go googling. Good luck x

BrigitBigKnickers · 12/09/2012 17:27

Epilepsy was my first thought too. The others are right DO NOT GOOGLE!

Straight to the Doctor and if this can't be made for a few days- make a fuss and say he needs to be seen straight away.

Ilovedaintynuts · 12/09/2012 17:30

Epilepsy thoughts here. GP straight away.

Good luck x

Glad they are being proactive. Take care x

Good luck. Wish I had your GP, it takes mine ages to even believe me.

Good luck. DS1 has epilepsy (since a baby and is now 6) and is now seizure free on meds and living a happy life.
