Dairy free to help glue ear?

Hi, anyone had any success with using a dairy free diet to help glue ear to clear?

I know evidence is a tad anecdotal and not an approved NICE method but the allergy helpline and NDCS seem to think there could be something in it for some children. ie dairy encourages the glue to be produced.

Just wondering if someone has experience of it.

DS (2) has just been diagnosed with bilateral glue ear causing mild hearing loss.

Not glue ear but going just cows milk free cured dd's monthly ear infections. The paediatrician said it was nonsense so I gave her milk, you can guess what happened 3 weeks later... I'm a scientist, I kept good records and I convinced myself but the doc's didn't want to know.

Thanks, he has never had ear infections ironically, but good to know it might have some links there. This dairy free stuff is expensive!

What did you use as a cheese alternative?

Still ate normal cheese. Only cut out milk (as that can travel up to the ears while they are drinking apparently)

It's expensive and a pain to organise but try it (for at least a month) if you can, otherwise you'll always wonder if you could have helped....

I took my DS to a cranial osteopath as he used to get ear infections every 3-4 weeks due to glue ear. That was 6 months ago now and he hasn't had a single one since...

Ah, so it's only the milk that's thought to be a problem for glue ear? Not the cheese, butter, biscuits etc?

That's great news, really hoping something shifts for him by the next appointment. He has been touching his ears a bit which is unusual so maybe sore or maybe he is hearing a bit more!
