Splinter!

Wondering what to do about a splinter...I'm probably being silly but could do with some advice as it's not NHS Direct 'worthy'

DD 18mo has what looks like a splinter in her big toe. It doesn't seem to be troubling her and I've only just noticed it today so it can't have been there long. Should I let it work its way out or take her to perhaps the HV to see if they might dig it out? I would have a go myself but she's a wriggly little lovely and perhaps disinclined to let mummy lose with a pin and her foot.

Splinter is about 2mm in length and I can see the top of it under the skin.

I'd go to the chemist tomorrow, get some magnesium sulphate paste, whack a bit of it on the skin where the splinter is, cover with a plaster and leave it for about 24 hours. Hopefully the mag sulph will draw it out.

YY as above. A warm bath beforehand as it seems to soften the skin first. DS age 2 had loads last year from crawling about the decking, I was really paranoid but they all came out I think - occasionally one would go a bit red for a few days then they'd be gone. I did pin him down with a tweezers once or twice but it was more distressing for us him than letting it take its course.

Second the mag sulph treatment.

Thanks ladies, I shall procure and apply and try not to prod the toe.
