Itp and headache

My 15 month old ds has just been diagnosed with severe itp, he's covered head to toe with bruises, I've basically been following him around not letting him touch anything since we found out on Monday.
Today he has been clutching his head and pulling his hair a lot, I'm wondering if he has a headache? It can't be bad as he's been very happy all day but unusually sleepy and has had three long naps, very strange for him.
Should I take him to dr or wait and see how he is?
Would be nice to hear from someone who has been through this as I'm not sure if I'm being over cautious or not, still new to me at the moment.

So sorry to hear that, my son was diagnosed at 7 years old, not severe, needed blood tests, but not bad enough for steriods, but his health, engergy levels and general immunity where affected, he also got arthritus as well. It was two years till he full regained the energy levels he had before, the bruising went away afte a couple of months, the arthritus got quite bad. I was a little shocke as we just got discharged and told to get on with it, there was nothing really they could do unless it got worse.

Did your child just have a MMR or other vaccine as it is a side effect of vaccines.

We had to have weekly urine and blood pressure checks, my sons diagnosis was changed to Henoch Schonlien pupura, a vairent of ITP.

I allowed my son just to sleep and rest when he wanted, my son was home-schooled so he could, he would have never have coped with school, he was way to tired. Did not complain of headaches, but you have to just sort of let them get on with it, but it used to break my heart when he would get new bleeds.

on the positvie side, the younger they get it the better, the prognosis for a full recovery. hoping for the best for your DC.

Thank you, nice to hear from someone with experience, although it's severe they won't treat unless he has nose bleeds, bleeding gums or bleeding on the brain Shock
Actually deferred mmr as he was so small when they were due so now I'm worried that if he recovers this time he will get it again when he has mmr at Xmas
Hopefully his headache and tiredness is nothing serious and just caused by low count but was worried as they did say a spontaneous bleed on brain would cause headache and tiredness. I guess it's just a wait and see.
Glad to hear your son has recovered now

to be honest, I would do so major looking into how people with ITP should be treated with vaccines. I have stopped all vaccines for my son, ITP is a auto immune disease, the body attacking itself. The studies currently say that there is no risk with vaccination, but to be honest they all say that. They do however acknowledge a clear link between ITP and vaccinations.

Thank you, yes my son has recoverd, but he is not the same as he was before, we have to be really careful with his health, food, and how much activity he does, if he overdoes it for a few days he will often get a virus or cold, I would not say he is robustly healthy, lots of niggles etc.

Have a good look, there is a ITP support site, talk to the docs.

Its a worrying time, hope you get through it ok. xx
